Drone footage reveals hundreds of thousands of protesters on the streets of Khartoum, demanding a return to the civilian government and end to military intervention.
Tear gas being fired at protesters was visible.
According to reports, the military used live ammunition and stun grenades to keep protesters back from the Presidential Palace.
Security forces attempted to block major roads prior to the protest leading to the airport, army headquarters and into Khartoum.
On 25 October 2021, a military junta in Sudan staged a coup and dissolved the Sovereign Council and the government. A state of emergency was declared as Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was imprisoned, along with several ministers and civilian political leaders. Due to an agreement with the coup plotters, however, Hamdok has returned to his post, although the protests are still continuing.
