Sudanese forces fired tear gas canisters at protesters demanding a return to civilian rule in Khartoum on Thursday.

Demonstrations have turned deadly in the Sudanese capital this week.

During Wednesday’s protests, at least 14 demonstrators are said to have been killed by security forces, making it the bloodiest day since October 25. Dozens of protesters suffered gunshot wounds, with several in critical condition, according to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD).

General Abdel al-Burhan, who dissolved the administration led by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on October 25, issued a decree last week naming a new transitional council which excluded representatives of the civil coalition, sparking a new wave of protests.
