Delegates from the Syrian government, opposition and civil society met for the first session of the sixth round of the Syrian Constitution Committee talks in the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Monday. The participants focused on drafting a new constitution for the country with the mediation of Special Envoy Geir Pedersen.
The recent round of talks is expected to last until Friday as its participants will be discussing constitutional principles and then step to drafting a constitution.
The Syrian Constitutional Committee was formed in 2019, comprising 150 men and women, with the government, the opposition and civil society each nominating 50 people. This larger group established the 45-member small body, consisting of 15 representatives from each of the three sectors.
