Syria: FM Mekdad meets Iranian counterpart Amir-Abdollahian in Damascus

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Damascus, Saturday, to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after visiting Moscow and Beirut.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad welcomed his Iranian counterpart, saying, “This is a very important visit, and I hope, of course, that these visits will always be repeated, because the distant visits proved to be useless. We will also talk about the recent visits he made to Moscow and Beirut and aspects related to the Iranian nuclear file.”

“We in Syria support the efforts made by the Iranian leadership, and we strongly condemn all American practices that seek to manipulate this situation and other situations in the region,” Mekdad added.

Amir-Abdollahian indicated before arriving for his second visit to Syria that Iran was interested in having strategic relations with Damascus.
