Six landing ships of the Northern and Baltic Fleets arrived at the Russian Navy’s logistic support point, the Syrian Tartus port, on Friday.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the ‘Peter Morgunov’, ‘Georgy Pobedonosets’, ‘Olenegorsk Miner’, ‘Korolev’, ‘Minsk’ and ‘Kaliningrad’ ships have completed a six thousand nautical mile passage around Europe and arrived in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as part of the Russian Navy’s exercise.

The Ministry added that the crew of the ships began replenishing supplies of fuel and lubricants, drinking water, and food.

In accordance with the training plan of the Russian Armed Forces, a series of naval exercises are being conducted in all areas of responsibility of the Russian navies in January and February.

The exercises will cover the waters of the seas adjacent to Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas of the world ocean. A total of more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 pieces of military equipment, and around 10,000 servicemen are planned to take part in the events.
