Syria: Smoke rises from Latakia port following alleged Israeli airstrike

Smoke billowed from the port of Syria’s main commercial port Latakia after an alleged Israeli airstrike on Tuesday.

Smoke and fire could still be seen rising from cargo containers in the shipping yard.

The attack is the second on Latakia this month, according to Syrian state news agency Sana.

The blaze was reportedly brought under control by 12:00 local time (10:00 GMT), with no casualties reported.

The containers are thought to contain oil and machinery spare parts, including for cars.

The Israeli military has not commented on the reports.
