Standing in the darkness of an abandoned medical clinic in the recently-liberated Ukrainian city of Izium, Mykola Mosyakyn remembers all too well the spot where he was tortured by Russian soldiers.

He is one of countless Ukrainians who were submitted to arbitrary and relentless torture at the hands of the occupying forces - an ordeal that went on for months.

Russian forces began pounding Izium with artillary on the 3rd of March and didn’t stop for days.

A month later on the 1st of April, Russia claimed control of what was left of Izium after Ukrainian forces fell back, conceding defeat in the crumbling city.
