Teens Start Wildfire Next to Iconic South San Francisco Sign

Two teenagers admitted having started a grass wildfire that broke out on Friday afternoon on Sign Hill, next to the iconic South San Francisco Industrial City sign.

It happened amid a red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service, as the weather conditions in the area pose a high risk of fire.

The blaze sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky and prompted the evacuation of nearby homes. Thousands of Northern California residents remained without electricity on Friday as a measure to prevent the spark of further wildfires.

After a few hours, the blaze was contained and evacuation orders lifted in the evening.
