Protesters clashed with police in the centre of Bangkok, near the residence of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, for the fifth time in a week on Sunday.
A ‘car mob’ convoy consisting of thousands of cars and motorcycles mobilised in the afternoon, with flags from the National United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (NUDD) attached to their vehicles.
Later, officers were seen using tear gas and water cannons to control the crowds of demonstrators, who in return used slingshots to fire projectiles at police, as well as aiming fireworks.
Mass protests have been ongoing in Thailand since July of 2020 over numerous issues relating to the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, amid a surge in cases within the country.
