The Walking Building: 7,600 Ton School Relocated in Shanghai

A 7,600 ton building has been ‘walked’ to a new location 62 metres away in a technological first for the city of Shanghai.

The 85-year-old primary school was lifted off the ground and relocated using new technology dubbed the “walking machine.”

In the city’s latest effort to preserve historic structures, engineers attached nearly 200 mobile supports under the five-storey building to successfully complete the project.
