Tornadoes and Powerful Hail Storms Hit US Southern States

Dozens of tornado warnings were in place as a wave of storms and at least nine twisters were reported across the Deep South on Wednesday, with more on the way.

About 40 million Americans were in the path of severe storms yesterday, according to the weather service’s Storm Prediction Center, in an area that stretches from Texas to Georgia.

The extreme weather knocked down trees, damaged buildings and left more than 70,000 homes and businesses without power. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Governor Ivey placed Alabama under a state of emergency as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a ‘high risk’ threat level.
