Tunisia: Protests as sacked PM, MPs attempt to access parliament

Tensions were boiling outside the Tunisian Parliament building in Tunis on Monday as the dismissed Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi and some of the representatives tried to access the building but was stopped by groups of protesters.

Tunisian President Kais Saied moved to dismiss the Prime minister and dissolve the parliament over COVID-related protests that had rocked the country over several months.

Saied has however been accused of riding a wave of popular anger against the political elite.
