Thousands of demonstrators blocked Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis on Sunday, in protest of President Kais Saied, a week after a major pro-government rally took to the streets of the Tunisian capital.
Riot police were seen clashing with chanting crowds of protesters, with at least 6,000 in attendance, according to local police.
Participants were reportedly blocked from entering a stretch of Habib Bourguiba Avenue containing the interior ministry.
In mid-July, amid a series of protests over the government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, President Kais Saied dismissed Prime Minister Hisham Al-Mashishi and dissolved parliament, which sparked protests as well as celebrations in the Tunisian capital and throughout the country.
