Firefighters supported by helicopters continued their efforts in combating a forest fire in Marmaris on Saturday.

Forest fires across Turkey continued on their fourth day in some locations, with tourist resort areas in the provinces of Antalya and Mugla being affected.

Authorities have stated that six people have lost their lives in the fires to date.

According to the UK’s Met Office, temperatures reached a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit) on Saturday, with similar temperatures expected in the next few days.

The cause of the fires is currently unknown and an investigation is currently underway to determine whether they were deliberately started by arsonists, according to the latest statement from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday.

A ban from entering forests is currently in place in many of Turkey’s provinces to help prevent further incidents and several regions have been deemed as ‘disaster areas’ by the authorities.

The blaze is yet another in a series of forest fires affecting the Mediterranean coast as areas in Italy, Lebanon, Syria, Greece, and Cyprus were also hit by forest fires this summer.
