The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported on Thursday the arrest of five protesters at a rally in support of the ‘SaveFOP’ movement that took place in the centre of Kiev.
“Currently, five men have been brought to the district police department, who started a conflict with law enforcement officers and did not comply with the lawful demands of the police,” the department declared.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs called on the protesters to “observe the established rules of conduct and the declared peaceful format of the event.”
In the morning, Ukrainian entrepreneurs gathered around Verkhovna Rada and went to Independence Square. Later, the protesters returned to the parliament building.
Due to the movement of the protesters, European Square and Hrushevsky Street were blocked, and traffic along Khreshchatyk Street was also impeded.
The rally participants used pipes and raised the flags of the ‘SaveFOP’ movement. During clashes with the security forces, some protesters threw eggs at the police.
According to media reports, the protesters demanded the preservation of a simplified system of taxation, accounting and reporting, as well as abolishing the requirement to use cash registers.
Ukrainian entrepreneurs began to go to rallies at the end of 2020. Initially opposed to the coronavirus restrictions, they have since moved to demand the repeal of a number of tax laws, including those that require small business owners to have cash registers.
In December of the same year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a package of laws to postpone the introduction of cash registers for small businesses until January 1, 2022. In addition, the head of state initiated the creation of a coordinating council to solve microbusiness problems.
According to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the government considered a bill to extend the delay on December 17, 2021, during an extraordinary meeting of the Duma. However, the decision was ruled out due to many absentees.
Starting this year, all entrepreneurs in Ukraine must use devices for issuing fiscal checks in settlement transactions and trade. For violation of this rule, fines are provided in 100 to 150 percent of the transaction amount.
