Unrest as hundreds remain stranded in Chaman due to continued border closure with Afghanistan

Hundreds of protesters, many of them reportedly Afghans stranded in the border city of Chaman by ongoing border closure, rallied in protest in front of the military headquarters in the Pakistani city.
Protesters threw stones at the facade and at one point broke the signboard of the building setting it on fire in front of the gates. Tear gas and rubber bullets were later deployed to disperse the angry crowds.
Chaman border crossing, a key border hub between Afghanistan and Pakistan was closed on the Taliban’s orders on October 5. The closure has resulted in the suspension of regular transit and trade between the two countries.
