‘US Capitol Attack: Police Officer and Suspect Dead After Car Crashes Into Barricade’

An attack at the US Capitol in Washington DC has left one police officer dead and another injured in hospital.

A car crashed into the barricade outside the Capitol complex before the driver lunged towards officers with a knife.

Police identified the slain officer as William “Billy” Evans, who had been a member of the Capitol Police for 18 years.

The suspect, named by several US media outlets as 25-year-old Noah Green, was shot dead.

An investigation into the attack is ongoing, but officials said it did not appear to be terrorism-related.

The deadly incident serves as a stark reminder of the violent insurrection on January 6.

Five people died in the riots, including Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick.

Questions are now being raised about whether security around the Capitol need to be increased.
