USA: Anti-racism campaigners hold rally at Minnesota State Capitol against police brutality

Hundreds of anti-racism campaigners gathered in St Paul on Sunday to protest against police brutality, in the light of the recent sentencing of ex-police officer Kim Potter and the killing of Amir Locke by police.

Potter was sentenced to two years in jail by a Minnesota court on Friday, after being found guilty of first and second degree manslaughter earlier in December, for the death of the 20-year-old Duante Wright.

The former police officer killed Wright after mistakenly using a gun instead of a taser during a traffic stop operation in April 2021.

The 22-year old Locke was shot dead by police in Minneapolis on February 2, after a SWAT team raided his home without notice. Police had been searching for Locke’s cousin, who was later arrested.
