Former police officer Kim Potter explained on the stand that the situation got out of hand in the moments that led to her shooting Daunte Wright, in a Minneapolis courthouse on Friday.

“We were struggling. We were trying to keep him from driving away. It just, it just went chaotic. It’s, and then I remember yelling ‘Taser, Taser, Taser.’ And nothing happened. And then he told me I shot him,” Potter said before breaking down in tears.

Potter, the former Brooklyn Center police officer, has been accused on charges of first and second-degree manslaughter and has entered a not-guilty plea.

The trial is the highest-profile prosecution of a police officer case since Derek Chauvin’s trial, who was convicted of murdering George Floyd earlier this year.
