Trees could be seen bending in heavy winds as Hurricane Ida approached Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans, on Sunday.

At least one person has reportedly died after Ida made landfall as a Category 4 storm, with the hurricane knocking out power for over a million people in Louisiana alone according to the outage tracker, PowerOutage.us.

The storm, which hit on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, took out the electricity for the whole city of New Orleans, leaving sewage pumps without power. US President Joe Biden signed off on federal disaster declarations for Mississippi and Louisiana on Saturday.
