Tree branches and debris littered the streets of New Orleans on Monday, after Hurricane Ida battered the city on Sunday.

Damaged structures and uprooted trees could be seen lying across roads, blocking traffic, with many buildings also having suffered damage in the storm, including Governor Nicholls Street Wharf.

The storm was classed as a Category Four hurricane when it made landfall. By Sunday evening, nearly all of New Orleans was without power. Huge amounts of rain are expected to follow as Ida continues north.

Ida hit New Orleans on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, with the storm sparking fears for Louisiana’s hospitals, as they are already packed with over 2,500 coronavirus patients currently.
