USA: National security advisor urges US citizens to leave Ukraine within next 24-48 hrs

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that “any American in Ukraine should leave as soon as possible and in any event, in the next 24 to 48 hours,” at a White House press briefing in Washington DC on Friday.

Sullivan also remarked that it was the US position that Russian President Vladimir Putin could make the call at any point to invade Ukraine. “We are in the window when an invasion could begin at any time should Vladimir Putin decide to order it, I will not comment on the details of our intelligence info but I do want to be clear, it could begin during the Olympics despite speculation that it could only happen after the Olympics,” he said.

“There is a very distinct possibility that Russia will choose to act militarily, and there’s reason to believe that that could happen on a reasonably swift timeframe, now we can’t pinpoint the day at this point and we can’t pinpoint the hour but what we can say is that there is a credible prospect that a Russian military action will take place even before the end of the Olympics,” Sullivan added.

Press secretary Jen Psaki added to Sullivan’s warning and urged American citizens to leave, saying that the US could assist them if necessary.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented, Thursday, on the evacuation by western countries of their embassy staff. “When embassy employees are being evacuated, when citizens of Anglo-Saxon countries are called to leave Ukraine as soon as possible, we have already thought for ourselves: maybe the Anglo-Saxons are preparing something,” he said speaking alongside his British counterpart Liz Truss after the two held talks.

“If they evacuate their employees [from Ukraine]. We also looked at their actions and, probably, we will also advise non-essential personnel of our diplomatic institutions to leave home for a while. I don’t know what ideas our Anglo-Saxon colleagues have,” Lavrov continued.

Russia has repeatedly denied having plans to invade Ukraine.
