USA: President Biden visits Mayfield to pay tribute to tornado victims

US President Joe Biden arrived in Mayfield, Kentucky, on Wednesday in order to witness the destruction caused by recent tornadoes first-hand and pay tribute to its victims.

​During a White House briefing on Monday in Washington DC, Biden stated that the US government will support affected areas “as long as it takes to help.”

Biden also announced his plans to set up Disaster Recovery Centers in affected areas and respond to the storms’ aftermath with a common effort of state, federal, and volunteer organisations.

Tornadoes ripped through six states in the Midwest and the South on Friday and Saturday, killing at least 74 people and destroying over a thousand homes.
