Pentagon officials gave a briefing in Arlington, Virginia on Friday, regarding the situation in Kabul following the airport blast that occurred on Thursday, with one spokesperson stating that “we do not believe that there was a second explosion.”

“I don’t have any additional detail to offer you about the attack yesterday at the Abbey Gate, but I can confirm for you that we do not believe that there was a second explosion at or near the Baron Hotel and that it was one suicide bomber,” said Army Major General William Taylor, about widespread reports of dual explosions.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed a total of 89 evacuation flights departed Kabul on Thursday, carrying 12,500 people, and bringing the total number of evacuees from Kabul airport to 111,000 since Taliban forces took control of the country.
