USA: "We do not see conflict"- Psaki on China as Aukus alliance confirmed

After confirmation that US, UK and Australia’s new strategic partnership had potentially upset both China and France, White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended the initiative during a press conference in Washington DC on Thursday.
“Our hope is that the three countries who have consistently worked with regional supporters to support a secure and stable and peaceful Indo-Pacific can now work together to do exactly that. As it relates to China, we welcome stiff competition with the PRC. We do not see conflict. Obviously, the president spoke with President Xi just a few days ago, and certainly we’re committed to maintaining an open, high level dialog between the leaders,” stated Psaki on the fallout from the deal.
The deal is a new three-way defence alliance between Australia, UK and US. The agreement initially involves building nuclear-propelled submarines. The nations aim to work together in the Indo-Pacific region, while the rise of China is seen as an ever-increasing threat to local stability.
France has blasted the deal as it means that Australia will now end the contract agreed with France to build 12 diesel electric-powered submarines.
“We cooperate closely with France, as the president said yesterday, we have a range of shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific and that will certainly continue. We don’t see this from our end as a regional divide. We see this as areas and security security issues that we want to take on together,” stated Psaki on the French response to the deal.
