US President Joe Biden delivered remarks on the infrastructure plan during his visit to Pittsburg on Friday, mentioning a bridge near Frick Park that collapsed earlier that day. The visit had been scheduled before the collapse, which saw several people injured, occurred.

Biden emphasised the importance of the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law passed last year, one of his most significant achievements since taking office.

“I’ve talked about it every time I’ve come to Pittsburgh, and we finally got it done: a bipartisan infrastructure law, including the largest investment in our nation’s bridges since Eisenhower, put together the interstate highway system,” he said.

Under the new infrastructure law, Pennsylvania has $1.63 billion (€1.462 billion) in federal funds reserved for bridge improvements.

The planned visit took on a new dimension after the bridge collapsed, with Biden reaffirming the need to repair and rebuild bridges.

Biden, a Pennsylvania native, also took the chance to mention the renamed President Biden Expressway, formerly known as Central Scranton Expressway.
