'What is happening now in Donbas is genocide' - Putin

President of Russia Vladimir Putin called the events in Donbass ‘genocide’, when speaking at a press conference following talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Moscow on Tuesday.

The Russian leader said that the State Duma’s voting on an appeal to recognise the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics reflected the interests of the people.

Putin also added that everything possible to solve the problems in Donbass should be done, with priority set on “the not fully realised possibilities for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.”

“We are very much counting on that our partners across the ocean and in Europe, above all Germany and France, will exert the appropriate influence on the authorities in Kiev,” added Putin.
