Yemen: Military force on road towards Marib governorate to support National Army

A military convoy was seen on the road on Wednesday, reportedly coming from Saudi Arabia and heading to the Marib governorate to support the Yemeni National Army, loyal to ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in their battle against Houthi forces.

Footage shows vehicles carrying armed men and flying Yemeni flags on the road.

Clashes have been continuing for weeks on all fronts in Marib. According to local reports, the past hours witnessed violent battles between the National Army and Houthi forces on the southern fronts of the governorate.

Since the beginning of last February, the Houthis have intensified their offensive to control Marib, as it is the most important stronghold of the government and the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, in addition to its oil and gas resources.

Coinciding with the advance of the Houthis in Marib, they were also able to control vital areas last Friday, especially in the coastal city of Hodeidah, after Emirati-backed forces, including the Giants Brigade, announced their withdrawal from parts of the city.

The conflict in Yemen between the Saudi-backed government, local factions backed by the UAE, and the Houthi ‘Ansar Allah’ movement allied with Iran has been ongoing since 2014 and has been described by the United Nations as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
