Laughter broke out as the meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Secretary-General of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid started with a sudden lights-out in Stockholm, Tuesday.

The sides were about to discuss mutual issues when the room went dark.

“Let’s have a disco party,” proposed Russian OSCE permanent representative Alexander Lukashevich.

In turn, Lavrov asked journalists not to push their backs to the wall.

A similar situation had occurred during talks between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba earlier that day.

The annual Ministerial Council of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, chaired by Sweden, takes place on December 2-3, 2021, and aims to review and assess the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian area and the organisation’s work in all its fields of activity. The participants include foreign ministers from North America, Europe, and Central Asia.
