Crowds of people and long queues of cars could be seen outside Kabul’s airport on Friday, as thousands of Afghans continued to seek to escape from their country in the wake of the Taliban’s seizure of power.

Meanwhile, several planes landed and took off from the airport as governments rush to evacuate citizens, diplomatic personnel, and local translators and aides.

According to NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, governments will keep evacuating people at least until August 31, the deadline discussed by US President Biden. However, many NATO countries are currently pushing for an extension of the evacuation period.

According to Biden on Friday, the US has already evacuated 13,000 people out of Kabul since August 14, while thousands more have been flown out by other NATO states.
