Five people have reportedly died during a security operation led by the Taliban in the eastern Jalalabad.

The clash took place on Monday, and saw three kidnappers, allegedly members of Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS, ISIL), killed by Taliban forces, after they killed a kidnapped goldsmith. A Taliban intelligence officer was also reportedly killed during the raid.

Damage to the property and evidence of bloody clashes could be seen in footage recorded on Tuesday.

According to eyewitness Matiullah, the fighting began at 22:00 (local time; 17:30 GMT) local time and lasted until 06:30 (local time; 02:00 GMT).

Another eyewitness described how he and his brothers were shot: “Then they shot me and injured me. Our women were crying, they hit my brothers who were innocent.”

Local reports state that one civilian was injured in the raid.

According to local reports, at least two suspects were detained with eight weapons and explosives.

SOT, Witness (Pashto): “It was fired when I came outside, they shot me in front of my house. I said don’t shoot there are our women, we are poor people and we don’t have communication with others. They said come and surrender, I said we surrender don’t fire we are not guilty.”

SOT, Witness (Pashto): “Then they shot me and injured me. Our women were crying, they hit my brothers who were innocent.”

OT, Matiullah, Eyewitness (Pashto): “I went out and said, ‘who are you commander?’ He said, ‘take of your clothes and surrender.’ I raised my hands and said we are surrendering, we are not guilty.”

SOT, Matiullah, Eyewitness (Pashto): “The clash started at 10 pm and lasted until 6:30 am, the money changer was killed by ISIS members and the security forces killed 3 ISIS members, we saw that and our home [was additionally burned].”
