The Afghan Security Forces were seen on high alert in Herat province, being ready to repel Taliban attacks, Sunday.

“In the morning Taliban fighters were present here, but they escaped from this area as the security forces were deployed,” said Nisar Ahmad, a Herat resident.

The security forces repelled Taliban attacks, which saw some civilians wounded and being treated in Herat hospital.

“There were clashes between the government forces and the enemy, and enemy inflicted a lot of casualties, we are ready, and make plans to push them back again,” stated Hafizullah Mansob from the Afghan National Police.

On Friday, rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire were launched towards the entrances of the UN main compound in Herat by anti-government elements, with at least one police guard killed. No UN personnel were injured.

SOT, Hafizullah Mansob, Afghan National police (Dari): “We are located near Pul-e-Malan, as there were clashes between government forces and the enemy, and enemy inflicted a lot of casualties, we are ready, and make plans to push them back again, God willing, the enemy has been beaten.”
