Beggars could be seen in Jalalabad on Saturday as a looming economic crisis continues to threaten the country.
“This is our situation. Due to my helplessness, I came to collect beg, I’m a disabled man too, my children want me to bring food for them. I have a big family,” said one beggar.
Markets mainly appeared empty, with a meager presence of buyers.
“For one and half months I came to the city to find work, but still I didn’t earn money, all my children are hungry, even if people give me donations I want, I don’t have food in my home,” said another unemployed man.
According to recent UN findings, the current economic situation in Afghanistan has been worsening, with food supplies possibly threatened.

SOT, Ajab Gul, Labourer (Pashto): “We are concerned about our future and what will happen next, as you all know there are many people who are jobless, life has gotten so bad.”
