Argentina: Tears of joy at Buenos Aires airport as country reopens to vaxxed tourists

Buenos Aires international airport witnessed emotional reunions, Tuesday, as Argentina reopened its borders to foreign visitors after a 19-month ban due to the pandemic.
Visitors fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are now exempt from mandatory quarantine after presenting a negative PCR test upon arrival.
“I am a foreigner so they did not let me in, and I have my whole family here, I am very happy,” a traveller at Ezeiza airport said.
On the first day of open borders, around 1,300 tourists entered the country, with most of them arriving from Brazil, according to the local government.
Argentina reopened for visitors after the vaccination rollout in the country surpassed 57 percent, and after it completed 20 weeks of decrease in COVID cases.

SOT, Marianela, Returnee traveler (Spanish): “More than two years [away] due to the pandemic more than anything, because I am not Argentine, I am a foreigner so they did not let me in, and I have my whole family here, I am very happy.”

SOT, Maitena Aguero, Returnee (Spanish): “I wanted to hug my dad because last year in the midst of a pandemic we found out that he had a cancer, they had to operate on him and after the surgery he had coronavirus, all in one, but still here we are.”
