Belarus: Su-30SM fighters participate in joint drills with Russia

Russian and Belarusian Su-30SM jets conducted patrolling missions along Belarus’ borders during the joint drill Allied Resolve 2022 drills, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Monday.

According to the ministry, the planes took off from the Baranovichi airfield and carried out single and double flights in difficult weather conditions.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said the drills, which will last until February 20, are being carried out “to work out the tasks of suppressing and repelling external aggression while conducting a defensive operation, countering terrorism, and protecting the interests of the Union State.”

The exercises come at a time of heightened tensions over Ukraine. The West has questioned the continued build-up of Russian forces near Ukraine, warning of an invasion. Moscow has repeatedly denied the claims.
