SOT, Josep Borrell, High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: “Look at all possible solutions to stop the regime, the Lukashenko regime, from targeting us from targeting its own population. And we agreed to expand the scope of the sanctions regime on Belarus. So from now on we will be able to sanction more people according with their activities on the organisation of these flights, for people, from several countries going to Belarus and from there to the European Union member state’s borders.”

SOT, Josep Borrell, High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: “We agreed to the adoption of a new package, it will be the fifth one. A new package on sanctions, it will be finalised in the coming days. It will affect quite an important number, and not beside the number and certainly not the persons and entities but the package has been politically adopted. And as I said, by expanding the scope of the sanctions we will be able to target those responsible for exploiting vulnerable migrants and facilitating illegal border crossing.”

SOT, Josep Borrell, High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: “The European Union borders have not opened in an unlimited way. The entry into the European Union is only possible through legitimate border crossing(s) fulfilling the European Union requirements with visa or certain procedures and any information claiming otherwise is wrong and it is pure disinformation.”

SOT, Josep Borrell, High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: “The responsibility is on Belarus 100 percent. We can start solving this problem by stopping the flow of people to Belarus and those who are already in Belarus must be given humanitarian assistance.”

SOT, Josep Borrell, High Representative of European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: “The road to the European Union does not lead via Belarus. And our delegations around the world especially the most affected countries are providing info in order of people being instrumentalised, in order of people being weaponised, in order of people being cheated and being converted in a kind of instruments with political objective, this is illegal and inhuman.”
