Chinese Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesperson Wang Wenbin discussed China’s commitment to maintaining a relationship with the new Afghan government at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
“We are willing to maintain communication with the new Afghan government and its leaders. It is hoped that during the interim government, the new Afghan regime will extensively listen to the views of all ethnic groups and factions and echo the aspirations of its people and the expectations of the international community,” the spokesperson said.
“China’s position on the Afghanistan issue is consistent and clear. We respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. China won’t interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs,” Wang added.
Commenting on US involvement in Afghanistan over the past 20 years Wang stated “the US military has been causing great damage to Afghanistan and causing serious harm to the Afghan people from the first day of the invasion to the last moment when it left.”
SOT, Wang Wenbin, China MOFA Spokesperson (Mandarin): “China sees the importance of the announcement by the Afghan Taliban of the establishment of an interim government and some essential personnel arrangements, which put an end to more than three weeks of anarchy in Afghanistan. It is a necessary step for the restoration of domestic order and post-war reconstruction in Afghanistan. We also note the Afghan Taliban’s statement that the interim Government was established to restore social and economic order as soon as possible.”
SOT, Wang Wenbin, China MOFA Spokesperson (Mandarin): “China’s position on the Afghanistan issue is consistent and clear. We respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. China won’t interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. China supports the Afghan people in choosing their own development path suited to their own national conditions. China hopes that Afghanistan will build a broad and inclusive political structure and pursue moderate and steady domestic and foreign policies. Resolutely crackdown on all kinds of terrorist forces and get along well with all countries, especially neighboring countries.”
SOT, Wang Wenbin, China MOFA Spokesperson, (Mandarin): “We have taken note of the relevant reports that it can be said that the US military has been causing great damage to Afghanistan and causing serious harm to the Afghan people from the first day of the invasion to the last moment when it left. The United States claims that the US military has completed its mission in Afghanistan. Is it true that the US military’s mission was to destroy the Afghan country and harm the Afghan people? Will there be more obstacles to the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan even after the US military’s final withdrawal?”
SOT, Wang Wenbin, China MOFA Spokesperson, (Mandarin): “The US military’s 20 years in Afghanistan is a living textbook that vividly shows what the consequences are if they recklessly interfere in other countries’ military and impose their ideology and values on others. At present, the history of Afghanistan is turning a new page. The international community must think deeply about how to prevent the tragedy of Afghanistan from happening again.”
SOT, Wang Wenbin, China MOFA Spokesperson, (Mandarin): “The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan is performing its regular duties, and we are willing to maintain communication with the new Afghan Government and its leaders. It is hoped that during the interim Government, the new Afghan regime will extensively listen to the views of all ethnic groups and factions and echo the aspirations of its people and the expectations of the international community. We note the emphasis by the Afghan Taliban that all people will benefit from the new regime.”
