Hundreds of Beijing locals queued up to get their hands on some much-desired merchandise featuring the official Olympic mascot, ‘Bing Dwen Dwen,’ at the official Olympic flagship store in Beijing on Saturday.
Large crowds began forming outside the store, which is situated in Beijing’s Wangfujing shopping area, throughout the day. Queues could be seen throughout the shopping zone with some locals queuing for up to four hours.
The panda-inspired mascot is believed to have sold out online with local factories struggling to meet the surge in demand due to the Lunar New Year Holiday, a time when production slows.
Due to tightened COVID restrictions, many members of the public were unable to get tickets for this year’s Winter Olympics, which officially began on Friday. However, throughout the city pop-up mobile screens displaying the games are running.
