Riot police cracked down on protesters in Minsk as thousands took to the streets to demonstrate against Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

According to local media, dozens of demonstrators were arrested following violent clashes with officers.

Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse crowds in the Belarusian capital.

This comes after two months of protests, with the largest rallies in Minsk drawing over 200,000 people.

Demonstrators have demanded authoritarian President Lukashenko to step down, claiming his recent re-election was based on fraudulent results.
