SOT, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament (French): “I will tell you once again that the European Parliament will be next to the French presidency to raise to the many challenges that await us, challenges to our values, the rule of law, sovereignty, climate change, sanitary crisis, and economical and social challenges. I have obviously noted with great interest Mr. President your commitment also with Germany to support the rights of legislative initiatives of the European Parliament, and also allow me to confirm that the Parliament will be at your side in the fight for women rights, equality between women and men in this context, rest assured Mr. President that I am personally disposed to the Simone Veil Pact, and I am happy to give you the floor.”

French President Emmanuel Macron and the newly-elected President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola held a press conference in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Macron had earlier highlighted what he referred to as the ‘fight for liberal democracy’ as one of the key issues on the agenda as France takes the presidency of the Council of the European Union, in a speech at the European Parliament.
