France: Thousands of union members march in Paris for better hospital working conditions

Members of the CGT, SUD and CFE-CGC unions and others marched in cities across France to demand support from the government, with thousands seen marching in Paris on Tuesday.

The protesters rallied through the streets with signs and banners and ended up at the Invalides Hostel.

“The questions that are asked are not new. On the other hand, the answers are insufficient, even off topic. We can clearly see this in the health sector, since there are still so many staff shortages, there are still beds that are closing while the demand is increasing, especially with the COVID crisis, “explained CGT general secretary Philippe Martinez.

The protest came as French hospitals continue to struggle following waves of COVID-19 hospitalisations, with WHO reporting 292,012 new virus cases in the country on Monday.

According to the CGT, 3,000 attended the demonstration.
