A Berlin court has found a Russian national guilty of murdering a Georgian national of Chechen descent in a Berlin park back in 2019.

The court convicted Vadim Krasikov of the crime, sentencing him to life in prison, on Wednesday.

Prosecutors argued the Russian intelligence agency FSB had ordered the killing of Georgian citizen Tornike Khangoshvili.

In Russia Khangoshvili faced charges for crimes including his role in the 2004 Moscow metro bomb attack which took the lives of 41 people and left 250 injured.

Krasikov’s defence lawyer called the evidence “circumstantial” and said, “there is no evidence that there was a commission at all and in particular by whom this commission was placed. There is not a single evidence to me and the court also admitted there is not a single evidence that would prove this.’‘

Russia has dismissed allegations of its involvement in the killing as “absolutely groundless suggestions”.
