Bundestag candidate Thomas Lindlmair was seen campaigning on the streets of Berlin on Thursday. He has recently made headlines for being the first-ever candidate without a permanent address to run for a Bundestag seat.
While not homeless, Lindlmair lives in short-term rentals and is between moving apartments. According to him, the lack of a permanent address does not disqualify a person from seeking to run in an election. However, there are certainly more hurdles in the way as a result. “That I can candidate for it became very quickly clear by the Federal Returning Officer. When I called there, he said: ‘It can work since you don’t lose the active and passive election rights, but because nobody has ever done it, there were no regulations on how to realise it’.” said the candidate.
He went on to say that his dream would be to ensure people don’t go without homes anymore. The German federal elections are scheduled for September 26th.
