German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met Polish President Andrzej Duda and the French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday as part of the Weimar Triangle in Berlin, where he said the ‘common goal’ was to prevent a war in Europe amid Ukraine-Russia tensions.

“The deployment of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine is very worrying and our assessment of the situation is very identical - as is our stance,” stated Scholz.

Speaking to journalists present, Scholz pointed out that “further violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity” would entail consequences for Russia, such as economically “and certainly geo-strategically.”

This year, France would hold the EU Presidency, Poland the OSCE Presidency and Germany the G7 Presidency, which, according to the state representatives, meant special responsibility for European and global security issues.

SOT, Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor (German): “Our common goal is to prevent a war in Europe. The deployment of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine is very worrying and our assessment of the situation is very identical - as is our stance. A further violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty is unacceptable and would have far-reaching consequences for Russia - politically, economically and certainly geo-strategically.”
