Greece: At least one dead as earthquake rocks Crete island

An earthquake of at least magnitude 5.8 was measured in the Greek island of Crete, on Monday.
Some damage could be seen in smartphone footage taken moments after the tremor in Arkalochori, near the epicentre of the earthquake, with shop windows and some public amenities broken.

Local authorities reported at least one person died and two were trapped under damaged buildings. The mayor of Arkalochori village said two churches and a few other buildings at the were damaged as a result.

Estimates for the strength of the earthquake range from magnitude 5.8 to 6.5. The epicentre was measured to be 23 kilometres (14 miles) northwest of Arvi at a depth of 10 kilometres according to the Athens Geodynamics Institute.
