Greece: Residents react to new mandatory indoor and outdoor mask mandate in Athens

Residents of Athens shared their reactions to the latest tightening of measures against COVID-19, including the reintroduction of mandatory use of face masks outdoors, as seen on Friday.

Locals could be seen wearing masks in public spaces, respecting the new measures.

“I think the new measures are correct. I am wearing a double mask, I have received three doses of vaccine, and I will get a fourth if necessary,” commented a resident.

However, other locals felt like the measures should have been applied earlier.

“Maybe we should have applied the measures earlier. Unlike others, we are vaccinated three times, so why should we go through this once again?” said another resident.

The Greek government now requires people to wear a face mask even in outdoor spaces, while inside grocery stores or in public transport people are required to wear a double mask or a KN95/ffp2.

The move comes amid fears of the rapid spread of COVID’s Omicron variant.
