Mourners attended a requiem mass held for the late Haitian president Jovenel Moise at the Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral in Cap-Haitien on Thursday.
“Violence will never help our country to get out of this political dead end, which can only be resolved through dialogue, consensus, the spirit of communion for the superior interest of the nation for the common good of the country,” said Archbishop Launay Saturne during a tribute speech.
“Now is the time for the citizen, civic and patriotic commitment of all of us Haitians to save our beloved Haiti, which is in danger of disappearing,” added the archbishop.
Mourners took part in a procession following the mass, with many choosing to wear t-shirts featuring a portrait of the late Haitian leader.
The former president’s funeral is set to take place on Friday and is expected to be attended by his widow, Martine Moise, who was injured during the deadly attack and treated in Miami.
