Pro-Beijing candidates claimed victory in the Legislative Council (LegCo) election, in Hong Kong on Monday.
The city reportedly saw its lowest ever voter turnout at just 30.2 percent of those eligible voting.
This election was the first after China introduced changes to the electoral system. One of the changes made was that only ‘patriots’ were allowed to stand for election, and candidates had to be screened by a separate committee.
There were 90 seats up for election this year, with 20 directly elected by the public, 40 filled by the Election Committee, and the remaining 30 elected by Functional Constituencies.
