Hong Kongers faced long queues for COVID-19 tests on Tuesday, a week after the start of the Chinese New Year Celebrations, amid a spike of new cases.
Residents are also faced with a vegetable shortage in supermarkets due to supply chain issues, after many HGV drivers from mainland China tested positive for COVID-19.
“I think there’s only two options: you either go into lockdown, or you live with the virus. I feel like the Hong Kong Government [is] now in a dilemma,” said Lam, a local resident.
According to the latest data published by Hong Kong’s authorities, the region saw 625 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
As a response to the wave of new cases, the government has introduced restriction-testing declarations for certain areas, requiring for residents to undergo compulsory testing.
