Lima residents staged metres-long queues to undergo free COVID tests on Tuesday as the health authorities confirmed the arrival of the third wave of the pandemic in the country.

Drone footage showed hundreds of people lining up in a queue going beyond several blocks.
The medical facility offered the booster dose for those who eventually tested negative.

“I have had both doses, I will have the third one but I might be asymptomatic, so to avoid additional stress, I will do first a test,” said one local resident.

On Tuesday alone, Peru registered at least 5,182 new infections nationwide.

SOT, Local resident (Spanish): “I feel bad. I have headache, pain in the chest, in my joints. I had fever last night. A relative who came to my house feels the same now. Therefore I suspect we have COVID, this is why I came here.”
